Sotogrande was founded in the mid 60,s in San Roque near the Costa Del Sol. At the time it was merely a project of a group of investors. On this piece of land, the businessman Enrique Zobel decided to build a beautiful Polo ground by the sea, perhaps the most spectacular one in the world. That's how 'Sotogrande Polo' was born in 1965. Both projects, Sotogrande and the Polo, have grown up together unthinkably to date.

Sotogrande is now one of the most important luxury living developments in Europe, the Santa Maria club is one of the most reputable Polo sports complexes in the world and at present The Santa Maria Polo Club offers nine grounds with a further two under construction. The Club organizes over thirty yearly tournaments in high, medium and low handicap, during the spring, summer and winter seasons.

Amongst some of the events are the Gold and Silver Cups 'which scores points in the World Circuit' and Memorial Jose Ignacio Domecy 'in the holy week'.
